Colorado Academy's experienced safety and security team is friendly and vigilant. They ask all members of the community to work together to keep CA safe for everyone.
CA has many measures in place to ensure the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff, and families, including CC cameras and electronic building access. Our expert security team is a constant, visible presence on campus, and they continually assess and make enhancements to safeguard our community.
Vehicle access and parent badges:
Parents and guardians will gain campus access by showing their ID badges at the Welcome Center.
Parents, guardians, and all visitors must wear an ID badge when on campus.
Driving on campus
All drivers must obey the 10-mph speed limit on campus.
Do not text or talk on the phone while driving on campus.
Please use visitor parking in Welborn, Smith, or Newton Field lots. Other "color" lots are reserved for faculty and staff.
The lot near the Main campus entrance and the lot next to the Leach Center are for student parking only.
Miriah Medina joined CA as a campus safety officer in May 2022. She has extensive experience as a law enforcement professional, working most recently as a background investigator and marshal for the Denver County Courts. During her career, Medina has served in varied roles, as a Colorado Department of Corrections Officer, Denver Deputy Sheriff, and a Police Officer in the Boulder Police Department. She has volunteered in shelters for people experiencing homelessness and for literacy projects, served as a community advocate, and was an assistant probation officer in Denver. Medina holds a BA in Social Work from Whittier College in California.

Campus Safety and Security Officer Andy Barnard joined CA in summer 2023 and originally hails from Scotland. He was most recently a Park Ranger in the City of Aurora, which involved managing, educating, and enforcing all open space trails and reservoirs, responding to emergency situations, and protecting wildlife and the city’s natural resources. Prior to that, Barnard served as a Security Officer at Cherry Creek High School, where he also coached the freshman and sophomore soccer teams. He was also a Police Officer in Littleton, where he received a Medal of Valor for saving the lives of four people in an apartment fire.
Barnard has served in many other capacities, including six years in the British Army, with a tour in Afghanistan, where he earned two medals; working with challenged teens; coaching ice hockey, roller hockey, and soccer; raising money for charity; and inventing fun outdoor activities for vacationers in Scotland. In addition, he enjoys painting and doing voice-over acting.
Leonard Govea is a 20-year U.S. Army veteran with a great deal of experience providing security services in schools. After retiring from the military, he worked for Douglas County School district for 10 years as a Lead Security Specialist. Govea is a certified trainer for the Standard Response Protocol utilized by CA and other schools. He has completed the Colorado School Safety Resource Center (CSSRC) School Safety Specialists Academy which gave instructional training on the topics designated by FEMA, U.S. Department of Education and Colorado State Safety and Security Experts on research and best practices. Govea has taken training courses in nonviolent crisis intervention from the Crisis Prevention Institute, and he is currently enrolled in an Emergency Management & Planning degree program at Red Rocks Community College. Most of his time at CA is spent interacting with students in Middle School.
Tim Pendarvis joined CA as the Administrative Assistant in the Campus Safety & Security Office. An Air Force veteran and small-business owner, Tim brings an eclectic set of skills to the position. He has been Head Coach of the Cross Country Team at Addenbrooke Classical Academy, a fitness instructor and strength specialist with extensive knowledge of kinesiology and biomechanics, is self-taught in coding and cybersecurity, and makes a perfect cappuccino as a barista at his own coffee shop. He enjoys meeting people, building relationships, and has a strong foundation in customer service. Tim holds a BS in Health and Exercise Science from Regis University.

CA welcomed Ryan Skates back to campus in spring 2024 to join the Campus Safety and Security Team, with primary responsibility on weekdays from 4-9 p.m. He was employed at CA from 2019-2023 as a custodian and was the coordinator of CA’s campuswide recycling and composting program. He previously worked as a bookkeeper and security officer at local businesses. Ryan holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Colorado Denver and is currently taking classes towards a master’s degree in forensic psychology.
