  Maclain Looper is an award-winning educator with many years of experience in teaching theater on both the Middle and Upper School levels. He has a combination of teaching and professional performance experience, having been a professional actor in both New York City and Sarasota, Fla. He came to CA from Rocky Heights Middle School in Highlands Ranch, where he was nominated for the 2012 Douglas County Teacher of the Year. He also has directed and choreographed at Legend High School in Parker. Looper holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan and worked as an intern at Colorado Academy in the Upper School English Department.

  Ian Marzonie

  Ian Marzonie began working at CA in the Operations Department as a carpenter and maintenance technician in summer 2015. In fall 2022, he joined the Theater Department as a Middle and Upper School technical theater teacher, and in 2023 became Engineering Coordinator. With over 20 years of prior experience in live productions, Marzonie has worked as audio engineer, lighting designer, set carpenter, stage manager, and production manager in a variety of local venues, such as Ball Arena (formerly Pepsi Center), Paramount Theatre, Denver Botanic Gardens, and Chautauqua Auditorium. He holds a degree in outdoor education and has already participated in Interim trips. Marzonie’s unique background and love of teaching makes him a natural fit for the position. His hobbies and interests include: scuba diving, birding, backpacking, whitewater rafting, and restoring and riding vintage mopeds.

  James Meehan

  James Meehan joined Colorado Academy as a theater tech expert and teacher; he came to CA from the Viewpoint School in Calabasas, Cal. He has had an extensive career in the arts, technology and teaching. Meehan has written, produced, designed, directed, shot, lit, edited, acted, and sung in numerous productions, both on stage and in television and web productions, and both in the U.S. and the U.K.  Meehan has worked for Apple Inc. and other tech and internet firms. He also has worked as a casting agent and is co-founder of an LA-based acting school, The Film Actors Academy. He received his BA in English from Middlesex University in London.

  Melissa Zaremba

  Melissa Zaremba has been resident choreographer and dance instructor at CA since 2018, and in 2022, added theater to her Upper School and Middle School teaching responsibilities. She holds a BPA in Dance from Oklahoma City University and an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University. She has performed in more than 30 union productions across the country, including eight years as a Radio City Rockette and in the first national tour of 42nd Street. She is an award-nominated choreographer who has worked in Chicago, Atlanta, Colorado, and Off-Broadway. Zaremba has served in the Adjunct Faculty of dance in the Musical Theater programs at Columbia College (Chicago), Roosevelt University (Chicago), and Abilene Christian University (Texas). She has taught for institutions across the country, including the Rockette Experience and Summer Intensives (as seen on MTV) at the Radio City Music Hall in New York. Zaremba recently returned to her home state of Colorado after 14 years in Chicago.
