Why Teach at CA?

Teaching at Colorado Academy is a unique and rewarding experience.
CA teachers have the freedom to do what they do best – teach – as they nurture and engage students’ natural enthusiasm and initiative. Small class sizes allow teachers to know each student and tailor instruction to both group and individual needs.  Teachers’ passion for their subjects provides a framework for student innovation and creativity. Many teachers also coach sports at middle and upper school levels, and teachers of most grade levels have the opportunity to lead students in experiential education programs throughout the year.

Enthusiasm and Excellence

CA teachers’ enthusiasm is matched by a student body that has a genuine thirst for knowledge. There is no doubt students want to be at Colorado Academy – they demonstrate it daily in academic achievement, arts performances, and exhibits, on the playing fields and courts, in travels abroad, in experiences in the outdoors, and during service learning projects.

Community Values

Classrooms at every grade level focus on a core curriculum as well as CA’s “6C’s:”  Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Cultural Competence, and Character Development. Teachers craft lessons to enhance these skills, and students eagerly embrace both the principles and the practical aspects of these themes. Respect is the keystone of character education at Colorado Academy, and students regularly demonstrate community spirit, sportsmanship, and courtesy.

Enriching Environments

Grassy quadrangles, gardens, stately trees, and trails enhance our 94-acre campus. New high school and visual arts buildings, sports fields, tennis courts, a natural pond, outdoor art, and a view of the Colorado Rockies provide a beautiful environment for students, teachers, and visitors. The nearby foothills and mountains present many recreational opportunities throughout the year, while Denver is a major metropolitan area that offers diverse cultural, entertainment, and sporting activities.

Professional Collaboration

Our thriving and welcoming community offers an environment of engagement, support, diversity, and collegiality in an atmosphere of respect among peers, students, parents, and staff. Colleagueship and collaboration within and across CA are great resources for new teachers. A faculty-mentoring program is in place within each division, teachers visit colleagues’ classrooms to learn from one another, and new co-teaching opportunities, both within and across academic disciplines, are developed yearly.

Faculty Advancement and Awards

faculty advancement program provides structure for teacher evaluation and for promotion from the rank of instructor to senior instructor to preceptor to master teacher. The Yoeman Fisher, Frances Newton, and other merit awards are presented each spring to teachers who demonstrate teaching excellence and innovation.
